Coca-Cola Chicken Wings

Coca-Cola Chicken Wings

Ingredients
  

Marination of chicken wings
  • 2 lbs Chicken wings
  • ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 0.4 oz thinly sliced ginger
  • 0.7 oz spring onion, cut into 2-inch pieces
Coke chicken wings
  • 1 teaspoon cooking oil
  • ½ cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 mini 8-oz bottle Coca Cola, about 230 ml
  • 1 Tablespoon light soy sauce
  • ½ Tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  • Half a lemon, cut into wedges (about 2.5 oz)

Method
 

Marination the chicken wings:
  1. Score each chicken wing.
    2 lbs Chicken wings
  2. In a bowl, combine wings with ginger, spring onion, salt, and white pepper.
    ½ teaspoon salt, 0.4 oz thinly sliced ginger, 0.7 oz spring onion, ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
  3. Massage well. Cover and marinate for 15 minutes.
Cook the wings
  1. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
    1 teaspoon cooking oil
  2. Sear wings for 3–4 minutes, turning occasionally until lightly golden.
  3. Add cinnamon stick and star anise. Pour in half the Coke, bring to a boil.
    ½ cinnamon stick, 1 star anise, 1 mini 8-oz bottle Coca Cola
  4. Add remaining Coke, light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, and oyster sauce. Stir well.
    1 Tablespoon light soy sauce, ½ Tablespoon oyster sauce, 1 teaspoon dark soy sauce
  5. Lower the heat, cover with a lid, and simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Uncover and simmer to the desired sauce consistency.
  7. Add lemon wedges. Cook for 30 seconds—no more, to prevent bitterness.
    Half a lemon
Garnish and serve:
  1. Garnish with roasted sesame seeds. Serve hot with rice or noodles.

Notes

  1. Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze the leftovers for up to 1 month.
  2. Add a splash of water or coke before reheating the leftovers in the microwave or reheat in a skillet over medium heat.
