Welcome to Our Kitchen

Real food . Real life . A little dot of joy in every bite.

We’re a duo fueled by curiosity, carbs, and the occasional kitchen crisis. At Lil’ Dot Cooks, we believe food should be simple, satisfying, and fun to say out loud. Our recipes are made for real life: busy days, hungry people, limited patience, and maximum flavor. You’ll find everything from easy comfort food to “Wait, I made that?!” kind of meals, plus the occasional kitchen hack that might just change your Tuesday night.

What started as a desperate escape from oily takeout turned into a full-blown love affair with cooking, and now, we’re here to share the joy, the chaos, and the really good noodles.

We bond over recipes, leftovers, and wildly different opinions on how spicy is too spicy. (Spoiler: one of us thinks chili oil is a beverage.)

We’re here to help you feel confident in the kitchen (or at least mildly less stressed). And if you’ve ever burned the garlic, forgotten the rice, or served something slightly… mysterious, we’ve been right there with you. Welcome to the Lil’ Dot Cooks crew. We’re so glad you found us.

Our Mission

• We’re here to help you feel good about feeding yourself and the people you love.
• Our recipes are meant to be approachable, a little playful, and always full of flavor.
• Whether you’re cooking with five ingredients or just five minutes of patience, we want you to feel confident stepping into the kitchen.

Our Story

When we moved to a city away from home in 2020 for study, cooking was the last thing on our minds. We moved in together, running on dreams, deadlines, and… takeout. A lot of takeout. Three meals a day, seven days a week—the kind that makes you question your life choices (and your sodium levels). I still get chills thinking about it. I swear I can still taste the oil.

Now, here’s the funny part, we both come from families where food was a big deal. Z’s mom is an amazing cook, and my grandma is basically a legend with a wok. Our childhoods were filled with homemade meals that fed more than just hunger. And yet… we knew almost nothing about cooking ourselves. My biggest flex at the time was making ramen. Still is, honestly—it’s family-approved and I will be sharing that recipe, promise.

We didn’t start cooking because it was our passion. Our story isn’t “I’ve loved food since I was five.” Ours started with survival, and the desperate need to escape oily takeout. We were tired, bored, and honestly just couldn’t face another plastic container of mystery sauce. So we started messing around in the kitchen. It wasn’t love at first stir, but somewhere along the way, we got hooked.

We fell for the process, the little wins, the mess, the late-night “okay but what if we added cheese?” moments. Cooking became more than just making food, it became how we cared for each other, how we found joy, and eventually, how we built Lil’ Dot Cooks.

And now, we’re here, still learning, still taste-testing, and still cooking, not out of desperation, but because we genuinely love it.

Why Lil’ Dot

The name comes from me — Lil’ Dot — small in size, so Z started calling me “the dot.” It stuck. When it came time to name this blog, Lil’ Dot Cooks just felt right. It’s personal, a little silly, and honestly, pretty accurate.

I also run Little Dot Creates, a social media design studio that helps food bloggers stand out online. So now the dot lives two lives: one behind the screen, and one in the kitchen. Z may have come up with the nickname, but now he’s also the guy behind the camera, the spice tester, and the calm during every kitchen adventure!

Meet the Dots

Hui – The Whisk

  • Born with chopsticks in hand
  • Loves dipping her fries into vanilla ice cream (only vanilla!)
  • Can eat noodles every day and still ask for more
  • Hates washing the blender!!! (with her whole soul)
  • Runs on coffee and hope
  • Collects shooting props for fun
  • Bakes only when emotionally prepared for cleanup
  • Wears white in the kitchen, stains it every time, and is still stubborn enough to keep doing it
  • Says “just a quick meal” then takes 2 hours and 47 taste tests.

Z – The Lens

  • Believes every meal deserves a dramatic close-up
  • Calm in chaos, even when the pan is literally on fire
  • Has a spicy food tolerance no one understands. (I giggled when I wrote this)
  • Has opinions on plating angles. MANY! (Don’t get me started on portrait shooting)
  • Quietly judges your lighting choices
  • Treats camera gear like gold… and folds shirts like crumpled paper
  • Eats in silence, not for mood, just reviewing the texture in his head
  • Once said “This lighting tastes better” and meant it
  • Washes his hands like he’s prepping for surgery… between every ingredient.
